Day 37 - Opelousas to St. Francisville

High winds, heat, humidity and even a few obstacles couldn't stop us from making it across the Mississippi River.  Enjoy day 37 as we make our way through the Atchafalaya Swamp and Mississippi River.

Today is a very special day for the bloggers.  This glorious structure can only mean one thing, it’s finally time to cross the mighty Mississippi!!  One of the bloggers lived most of his life on the east side of the river, it feels good to be back on the right side!!  The other blogger made his money on the left or west side of the river but now resides back on the right side.

The first obstacle of the day was no food or coffee at the hotel.  So Bubba called an audible and opened a tab for all of us to eat at the Waffle House.  Anything we wanted was on Bubba and we enjoyed a hearty breakfast.  Thank you Bubba!

Bubba was able to gain access to a private road as we cycled through the Atchafalaya swamp.  This is the largest wetland and swamp in the United States.  Located in Louisiana, it is a combination of the wetlands and river delta area where the Atchafalaya River and Gulf of Mexico converge.

The second obstacle of the day was a Dollar General Truck jackknifed in the ditch in front of the Dollar General store.  You can't make this kind of stuff up.

With inclement weather on the way we stayed in a cabin and named it Margaritaville - open 24-7.  Rudy was generous to purchase all the wine, beer and margaritas for our cabin.  A great time was had by all.  Thank you Rudy!

Then a major storm hit with heavy rain, but thanks to Rudy's generous contribution of excessive amounts of alcohol, all survived.
