Day 36 - De Ridder to Opelousas

Today was a challenging 91 mile ride with strong headwinds, heat and humidity.  We cycled by miles and miles of crawfish ponds before arriving in Mamou, the cajun music capital of the world.  Being able to stop into Fred's Lounge in Mamou was the highlight of the day!

Fred's Lounge is the birthplace of French Cajun and Zydeco music.
After fighting headwinds for 63 miles to finally get to Fred's lounge, Adrian considered riding the rest of C2C on a motorcycle vs. his Specialized bike to the right.  More on Fred's Lounge shortly.

It was a very long day fighting headwinds for 91 miles and nearly seven hours on the seat.

Rice and crawfish ponds were common sightings throughput the day.

The authors both had a bowl of chicken and sausage gumbo at the Crazy Cajun Resturant across the street from Fred's Lounge.

As the plaque on the front of the building indicates Fred's Lounge has a long and storied history of French Cajun and Zydeco music.

So every Saturday morning a live radio show of music being played has been broadcast by the major AM radio ststion KVPI AM 1050 from Ville Platte, Louisiana.  Check it out because the house band really rocks and the bar is totally full of people who are really into the music and dancing as space permits.

Tommorow we cycle 68 miles to St. Francisville and will cross the Mississippi River.
