Day 33 - Mexican Hill Ranch to Sheperd

A key highlight on day 33 was cycling 50 miles through the Sam Houston National Forest and enjoying coffee and lunch at Honey's & The Hop.

Before leaving Mexican Hill Ranch the Wolfpack and Daniel a self supported rider gather to play some music.  Daniel and Taco are playing a ukulele and guitar.  Everett is playing the harmonica with a bottle of whiskey with Alyssa, Austin and Annie in the background.

Adrian for the second time shows his irrational exuberance when things get amazing like cycling through the Sam Houston National Forest.

We have been in deserts for the past month so seeing a lake with a fishing boat reminds the authors of the midwest.

Honey's is a great place for coffee.  As you can see fellow rider Timi Jo was also a huge fan of Honey's.

The Hop has great burgers and the best onion rings on coast 2 coast.  Oh my.....

The day ended at the weirdest place we have stayed at to date - Shepherd's Sanctuary.  It looks like Sanford and Son recreating Disneyland.

Houston, we have a problem....  Heavy rain is on the way for our ride in the morning. Once we finally get a break from east headwinds the tradeoff is heavy rain.  Good grief.

  1. The place you stayed last night was one of my favorites on last year's trip. You haven't mentioned any dogs on this year's trip. Any encounters? I remember a couple from yesterday's stage. And, sorry about the bad weather. It's amazing how things can change from year-to-year. Good luck today!

    1. Shepherds Sanctuary is a pretty unique place. We are seeing dogs in the same places as 2018, but really have not had any issues. This year I have police grade red pepper gel just in case.

  2. Like Gary, I really enjoyed Shepherd's Sanctuary as well. I'm a few days behind in your blog as I was riding Bike Florida with a few fellow Coasters. Then each night packing it in with the most miserable cold.

  3. Would either of you mind picking me up a t-shirt at Fred's when you get there? Size L please. It was so crowded in there, and so miserably wet and cold that day that I didn't bother to buy one last year. I've regretted it ever since!
