Day 3 - Jacumba to Calexico

After 2 days of rain we woke up to a sunny and frosty morning.  After climbing 7,500 feet the past two days the reward was a screaming 12 mile 6%+ grade downhill ride into the Yuha desert 👍

If that wasn't enough, we had crosswinds blowing 25 mph attempting to blow us off our bicycles.

Once we descended into the desert we thought we would catch a break.  No such luck ... Check out this roller coaster road!

Here are some pretty wildflowers in the Yuha Desert.  We are both encouraged about the cactus and wildflower bloom that awaits us in Arizona & Texas.

The Great Wide Open... inspired by Tom Petty after we descended off the Jacumba Mountains into the Desert.

It's fitting that we are staying in Calexico with an elevation of minus one feet after our epic decent off the mountain today.

Henry is seen carrying a 10 pound bag of ice from Kristal to chill down the precious beverages in our coolers.

Calexico and Mexicali are separated by the border wall in the background.  Calexico has 36,000 residents while the population of Mexicali is over 1,000,000.

Here a father is picking up his daughter at the Colexico Adventist Mission Academy where we staying this evening.  This student crosses the border twice a day to get her education.

Tommorow we cross into our second state -Arizona.
