Day 20 - Marfa to Marathon

Short 57 mile ride to Marathon.  We did have a 8 mph east headwind which has been the norm the past two weeks.  We are at 1,124 miles to date and will reach the halfway point in five days.

Hightlights today were spending time in Alpine at mile 26 and then visiting another historic hotel in Marathon.

The day ended with some of the coasters visiting the Brick Vault Brewery & Barbeque in Marathon. Seen here are Pete, Nancy, Henry, Captain, Rudy, Sherry & Timi Jo.

Daniel is showing readers of our blog what riders do when PaPow turns on the lights two hours before the sun comes up.  We lie on our mattresses and play video games.

View as we approached Alpine, Texas.  Very nice town with friendly people and great coffee and bakeries.

We saw this tarantula along the route today.  A first so far for the authors

Rose is seen entering a Target store. Apparently in Marathon Target is downsizing.

The Gage hotel, built in 1927 by architect Henry Trost, is a historic 45-room hotel.  The town was also a filming location for the movie Paris, Texas directed by Wim Wenders. The 1985 Kevin Costner film, Fandango, shot scenes in Marathon.

As we move inside the Gage to the white buffalo bar we encounter the mascot who has hung over the bar to inspire patrons for over 100 years.

Legend has it that a sacred white buffalo would end the suffering of Indians. The authors are not sure if that is the case, but this buffalo has ended many of our riders sufferings.

Only in Marthon Texas will you see this type of road sign.

The day ended with a beautiful sunset with a cactus in the foreground. We have a rest day tommorow and plan to sleep in and take it easy.
