Day 18 was a varied day on numerous fronts. It was the first time since entering Texas we have something interesting to talk about.
The day started with a beautiful sunrise, then we encountered high winds on our 73 mile ride to Marfa!! We met a Porche club in the remote west Texas desert and closed the day taking in the rich history of Marfa. Enjoy the cool sights from day 18.
We enjoyed a beautiful sunrise along the route on highway 90.
Henry is seen checking out the sunrise before starting the 73 mile ride.
Then things changed abruptly!! Adrian snaps a video of the 18 mph+ NE winds we encountered riding to first SAG top. It was even was more challenging the final 27 miles cycling into Marfa with a 20 mph headwind. It was a very challenging, but we both finished.
As we approached Marfa it was clear we were entering Giant country. This was one of four James Dean movies that were filmed.
Gorgeous historic Presidio County Courthouse in Marfa.
Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean and others have stayed at Hotel Paisano. Various movie productions have been filmed in and around parts of Marfa. The 1950 film, High Lonesome and the 1956 Warner Bros. film Giant were filmed in Marfa.
Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean and Rock Hudson stayed at the Hotel Paisano during the filming of Giant.
We encourage all readers to check out Hotel Paisano. Great food, drinks and history!
