Day 17 El Paso to Fort Hancock

Another day and another head wind - darn!  Today we had ESE winds just as our route turned SE towards Fort Hancock.

In El Paso we stayed at a very nice Quality Inn.  We will not see the comforts of another hotel for nearly three weeks.

In the 1994 film The Shawshank Redemption (1994), Ellis Boyd "Red" Redding crosses the U.S. border into Mexico at Fort Hancock to join his friend, Andy Dufresne, who earlier escaped from Shawshank Prison and fled to Zihuatanejo via Fort Hancock.

View of El Paso on our route. It took us nearly 24 miles to cycle out of El Paso this morning.

We saw numerous pecan groves along the route.

The pamper zone at the Fort Hancock Community Catholic church.....

While in the pamper zone Adrian & Henry decided to enjoy our last Stone beer from the brewery in San Diego.

Tommorow we cycle 74 miles to Van Horn with 1,900 feet of climbing and mild head winds.

The good news is the temperatures should be in the mid 70s with westerly winds in a few days.  It will be great to have normal weather patterns return as we continue on our Coast 2 Coast journey and adventure  😁

    1. Good to hear from you Gary. It's been challenging. We have had east head winds halfway though Arizona, New Mexico & so far in west Texas.  The one upside is we are becoming stronger riders.
